How can you ensure that a rower has access to the correct level of boat? Follow along with this example…

Mary, Jack and Alex all row at the “iRowNow Boat Club”, but they each belong to different programs and are at different rowing levels. How can we ensure that a beginner, advanced or superstar rower is able to use the correct boat at an acceptable time? Let’s explore!
Beginner level: Mary
Mary is enrolled in the club’s Learn-To-Row program. The Learn-To-Row coach only wants his class to use very stable “tubbie” rowing shells in his class. The iRowNow system allows the coach to assign only this type of boat to Mary for use only during class-time.This means that, assuming club rules are obeyed, Mary would only be able to row when her class is in session. At that time, the system would show her and her classmates the list of boats available to the class as assigned by their coach. Mary would be unable to log a boat out on the system at any other time.
Advanced level: Jack
Jack is a more seasoned rower, has passed the club’s captain’s test and has achieved a certain level of competency that allows him to use some of the club’s more advanced and expensive equipment. The coach and boathouse administrator have agreed that a rower at Jack’s level may row the boats shown in the default column at any time (assuming the boats are available, not reserved by another program or already checked out by another rower). Jack has also decided to enroll in a class that coaches him on the use of doubles, and you’ll note that certain boats are available to him only during class times, No doubles are available for Jack’s use outside of class-time.
Superstar: Alex
Alex is a rowing “superstar.” He’s passed the captains test for “singles”, for “doubles”, and he’s enrolled in a class that is coaching him in racing techniques. Jack can take out any club boat at any time it is available without coach supervision.
As you can see, the iRowNow software is flexible down to the level of an individual rower!
Who gets what?
Remember, coaches and administrators get the highest priority relative to boat reservations. The iRowNow system allows you to ensure that your all of your classes have equipment available to them during class time.
If a class does not use all of the boats reserved by the coach, an unused boat is “released” back into the logbook system for regular club use 20 minutes following the start of the class. So, no boats sitting unused in the boathouse! The same principle applies to rowers not showing up for a reserved boat – 20 minutes post-reservation, the unclaimed boat is released back into the logbook system.
Private boats
Notice the bottom of the example chart – Jack has been granted rowing privileges by a private boat owner who stores his boat at the club. The private boat owner needs to keep track of his rows and mileage to meet seasonal club rules for boat storage (he doesn’t want to lose his valuable rack space!). Private boats can be assigned to any number of rowers and they become part of the “default” boats that rowers have available to them.
